winston got barbie so high
Apparently Winston had never flown a kite before! So we went downtown to the Washington Mall and flew a kite.  Unfortunately the only kite I could find was a really cheap Barbie kite at Target but nonetheless we were totally successful.  We let little kids that passed by randomly fly the kite as well.  There was a picture, but Winston lost it. Then we went to the Hirshorn which I’d never...

janine is fortune cookie queen
Janine came over and showed us how to make fortune cookies!  The recipe for it is really simple but the process for making them is a bit of a team effort.  We did have a lot of fun getting everyone to participate in making the fortunes. THE RECIPE 1 egg white 1/8 tsp vanilla 1 pinch of salt 1/4 cup flour 1/4 cup white sugar 1. Preheat the oven to 400 degrees.  Butter a cookie sheet and...

Winston and Meghan fight expansion of the earth
Today we took on the streets of Columbia Heights to see how many people we could get to sign our petition to stop the earth from expanding. What we really wanted to see were people’s reactions or how many people who would actually talk to us. The answer is not very many. The only people that actually stopped and talked to us was a girl claiming to be 13 and thought she had learned...

there's no crying in baseball
Winston and I went to a Nationals baseball game with Munny!  I’ve never been to a baseball game before and although Winston has, he hadn’t been to a Nats game.  While the Nationals are quite possible the worst team ever, we had a lot of fun going, and the Nats actually won against the Dodgers.  We had pretty bad seats but we moved up really close, the games are never that full so no...

Day Two
Winston and I went dumpster diving!  We drove up to Trader Joes in Bethesda in search of abandoned foods in the middle of the night.  We found lots of broccoli, lots of chicken and a few other things.  We also discussed focusing on meeting more people through the project and organizing a party for all the people we’ve met at the end.

Caramel Recipe
2 Cups sugar 2 Cups dark corn syrup 1 cup (2 sticks) unsalted butter 1 cup heavy cream Mix ingredients in large saucepan.  Stir over low heat until the sugar is dissolved.  Cook over medium heat, stirring constantly until the mixture comes to a boil (approx. 25 minutes).  Remove the pan from heat and gradually stir in another cup of heavy cream.  Return to heat. Insert skewers into apples...

Day One
This is when I first approached Winston with the idea of trying something new everyday.  He seemed enthusiastic about trying it and encouraged the documentation of it and through discussion throughout the day we decided oh making it something to benefit other people as well as ourselves. We started the day by making Caramel Apples (recipe above) and took them to the drum circle at Malcolm X Park...

what we're doing
In an effort to lead more fulfilling lives, Winston and I have committed to trying something new every day, for thirty days.  We want to try as many new things, see as many new places, and meet as many new people as possible and by documenting our progress, we hope to inspire others to pursue things they’ve never done before.  We feel that life is a lot more interesting when you open your...
