winston got barbie so high

Apparently Winston had never flown a kite before! So we went downtown to the Washington Mall and flew a kite.  Unfortunately the only kite I could find was a really cheap Barbie kite at Target but nonetheless we were totally successful.  We let little kids that passed by randomly fly the kite as well.  There was a picture, but Winston lost it.

Then we went to the Hirshorn which I’d never been to before and Winston showed me the Yoko Ono Wish Tree in the sculpture garden and we wrote down our wishes and put them on the tree.  We walked briefly around the museum and talked to this security guard there named Oliver and he was really interesting.  He was a Vietnam veteran!

Then we came back and made lasagna for the first time using onions, mushrooms, tomatoes, and squash and home made sauce with tons of Ricotta, Parmesan, and Mozzarella.  Yum!

janine is fortune cookie queen

Janine came over and showed us how to make fortune cookies!  The recipe for it is really simple but the process for making them is a bit of a team effort.  We did have a lot of fun getting everyone to participate in making the fortunes.

THE RECIPE

1. Preheat the oven to 400 degrees.  Butter a cookie sheet and create fortunes.
2. Mix egg white and vanilla until foamy but not stiff.  Sift the flour, salt, and sugar and blend into egg white mixture.
3. Place teaspoon-fulls of batter 4” apart on cookie sheet, tilt cookie sheet around to move batter into circles.
4. Bake 5 minutes or until golden brown around edges.
5. Have one person remove the cookie sheet and use a spatula to remove cookies from the pan and place them on a cutting board where another person will place the fortune in the middle, fold the sides of the cookie up, bend it in half and then place it inside of a muffin tin to harden.

Winston and Meghan fight expansion of the earth

Today we took on the streets of Columbia Heights to see how many people we could get to sign our petition to stop the earth from expanding.

What we really wanted to see were people’s reactions or how many people who would actually talk to us. The answer is not very many. The only people that actually stopped and talked to us was a girl claiming to be 13 and thought she had learned about it in school, someone who didn’t speak very good English and I don’t think he knew what we were talking about, and some crazy guy that probably didn’t know what month it was.
